Virus now more intelligent compare with last few year back, now computer can be easily get effected by virus through network, email, portable media (USB thumb drive, portable hard disk) and the most case virus was spread through USB thumb drive to other computer even users have install anti-virus in their computer. This is because when users plug-in their USB drive into the computer that has affected by virus and the USB drive will be affected by virus without users aware. When users get the USB drive and plug-in to others computer and most of the case Autoplay features in Windows will activate the virus in the USB drive. This is how most of the computer gets affected by virus through USB drive.
To prevent virus attack, users now can get disable the Autoplay features in Windows and at the meantime get the USB firewall run in the USB drive. Without the Autoplay features, users have to manually click to open the USB drive, so that users manage to get any anti-virus software to scan their USB drive before they open any files inside their USB drive.
Below are the steps on how to disable Autoplay in Windows 2000 and Windows XP Pro.
- Click Start > Run > type “gpedit.msc” .
- At (Left Pane) Click Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System.
- At (Right Pane) Set “Turn off autoplay” to “Enabled” and select Turn off Autoplay on: All Drives.
