Youtube is the most famous space for users to upload and share their video online, the maximum size of video can be upload is 100MB. For users will having more then 100MB video to upload, is better reduce or compress the video so that it can be upload to Youtube. I just having a video file (.avi) that more then 100MB, here I use the Zwei-Stein Editor to reduce the video size.
Zwei-Stein is a fully functional, non-destructive video editing system which offers many advanced features unavailable elsewhere. This is a great freeware tool for user to reduce or compress the video or audio files.
Here is the step on how to reduce or compress the AVI file by using the Zwei-Stein
- Click File -> Import -> Import Video Clip. Open your avi file.
- Click Destination -> Video Format. Choose minimal video resolution.
- Click Destination -> Frames per second. Choose desired fps value (minimal or acceptable).
- Finally, click Destination -> Export -> Video for Windows -> … choose filename. Select sound quality (to minimize file size use average quality). OK. Choose XviD.
- Done! AVI file size has been reduced.
Below are the lists of features for Zwei-Stein
- Unlimited number of audio, video and picture tracks (*limited only by available memory)
- Unlimited number of video/audio effects for every track.
- Produce video with a resolution of 8×8 or 16000×16000 (~200 Megapixels / frame) and many sizes in between (custom)
- Full automation control for all track and effect variables using keyframes (cropping, zooming, panning, volume, rotation, opacity, key-color etc…)
- Full cross integration of audio and video. (noise gates triggering video effects. video brightness controlling volume etc.)
- Looping of both audio and video signals simultaneously, with adjustable cross-fade on loop boundaries.
- Manipulate the flow of time, forward, backward, speed up and slow down smoothly.
- Grouping of video/audio tracks into sub-groups (submixers) which can then be manipulated (faded/rotated/effected etc) as if they were a single track. (see submixer tutorial)
Audio Features:
- Up to 16 audio channels per track.
- Audio mixing with unlimited amounts of sub-groups in unlimited subgroup levels (16×16x16… mixing limit)
- Integral audio dsp running 48 kHz (16channels x 32bit) with 64bit normalization safety
- Sox audio processing on all platforms. zs4 will implement a sox front end which seamlessly integrates with native features (in progress)
- Musical time toolbars to allow for time related operations within the context of beats/bars/parts

This is the best tool I have ever come across for video editing. It has saved the day. Damn all those other software that claim that they are free only to discover they are limited inlength of video to reduce unless you purchase a licence. I am definitely bookmarking this site.

I downloaded and ran Zwei Stein. Open it and get the four part screen. However, when I attempt to export my file (video clip) it will not open into, I assume the upper left portion. I wish to compress the file. Am I doing anythng wrong?

Make sure that you are exporting it in the correct format.

This is really good. i spent a day trying all sorts of compression software and nothing worked until this. It’s VERY EASY if you follow the instructions and you have a lot of choices about the quality of your compression. Thanks! F

After choosing the final audio quality it says to choose XviD I am guessing as the compression software or alogortihm or something. I do not see it in the list. Is there something I am missing here? I just left it as the default at the top of the list and it seems to work fine. Does XviD work better if I am able to find it?

I have tried compressing my video 3 times with this software - following the instructions - and each time it only converts half the video then the middle section freezes then it repeats the first half again! any suggestions?

ahh!! it keeps bugging the video stops coverting but the numbers at the bottem are still moving and all. could it be because my original youtube file is 2 gigs and 200 megs?

After downloading both the Zwei-Stein editor AND Xvid codec, I’m having the same problem as Keith, Sherry and Jess. Has ANYONE overcome compressing their video and having it stop playing at 3:35?
December 18th, 2009 at 10:57 am
Yep, as what the others are saying. The reduced version freezes at 3:35. Anyone have suggestions to solve this problem?

Ah, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, as someone once said.
First, HUGE THANKS for shining a light on this fine software - SO very necessary these days. But methinks you might have done well (or, however many years after writing it, do a tiny edit) to amplify on “minimal” or “acceptable” - to the non-very-techies or research-oriented, it’s not clear whether the choices are in ascending or descending order of “compression.” That is, to squeeze the most out, which value(s) should one choose?
