Sharing folder in the computer within the company was become common and most of the users were not implement any security for the particular shared folder. Most of the time users will share the folder to everyone instant of share it to the particular users. Then the share folder was accessible by everyone without noticed. It is better that all shared folder has to be configure so that only certain users can access to that folder. But anyhow the share folder still showing in the shared directory for everyone and again this is a risk for the shared folder been hack.
Now with Access-based Enumeration (ABE), users may create the shared folder and only showing to the users who having the access right, whereby the shared folder will not showing in the shared directory for everyone. The bad news is Access-based Enumeration (ABE) and is only can be apply in Windows Server 2003 with SP1.
Users may get the ABE for free and is available in three different flavors as AMD64, I386 and IA64 installed in Windows Server 2003. After ABE has been installed, users need to enable the access-based enumeration for the share folder as the picture above. After that, users just need to configure the access control list (ACL) in share folder as only particular users may access to the share folder.
At the end of all process, only the particular users may see and access to the network share folder. For those users who are not giving any permission to the share folder, they are unable to see any share folder within the share directory.
