Most of the features at Windows XP Professional are not included in Windows XP Home as Internet Information Service IIS, Remote Desktop, Domain membership, Fax, Roaming Profiles and etc. As the conclusion, Windows XP Professional is the superset of Windows XP Home Edition. But anyway, some users still will go for Windows XP Home as the price is much cheapest then the professional edition.
Users will getting headache when there need some of the features that are not included in Windows XP Home Edition (e.g. IIS), there will look for others solution or try to hack the Windows. For users who still look for other solutions, below are the lists of step on how to make Windows XP Home Edition to become Professional Edition.
- Copy the root directory and the i386 directory of the WindowsXP CD to your hard drive.
- Extract the Bootsector of your Windows XP CD. You can use BBIE to do this.
- Click START–>RUN–>REGEDIT
- Highlight HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
- Click FILE–>LOAD HIVEand select the Setupreg.hiv file
This file is located in the i386 folder. Use the one you extracted to your hard drive from your Windows XP CD - Locate the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Homekey\ControlSet001\Services\setupdd
- Edit the DEFAULT key and change the following values: (01 to 00) and (02 to 00)
- Change the name to the value HOMEKEY to anything.
- Locate the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Homekey\ControlSet001\Services\setupdd
- Edit the DEFAULT key and change the following values: (01 to 00) and (02 to 00)
- Highlight HOMEKEY and select FILE–>UNLOAD HIVE
- Burn the data on your hard drive to a CD to make a new Windows XP CD (Be sure to make the CD bootable)
Remark: If your Windows XP CD does not contain Service Pack 2, you might want to Slipstream Your Windows XP CD first as you will not be able to upgrade an installation after using the CD.

I follow your steps, but than what should i do? Install WinXP or just the components. I’m a little confused beacause, it’s not necessary to copy nothing about iis or other stuff to the compilation?
Thanks

Why until now there’s no reply of JP’s questions? I need also to upgrade my home edition to professional, but it cost me almost a new XP pro. Please tell us the complete instructions.
Many thanks
